Hi Jean,

I saw a show where people where talking about virus and spam protectors. I have Trend micro which does not seem to work well on my lap top. What where the free site names that your group said to use? It sounded like I am wasting my money with this one. I was surprised to heard those were free ad trustworthy. I'd really apprecate it if some one could help me with this. Thanks, Lettie Hulet

Debbie

I used Consumer Credit Counseling (CCCS) service, now called CredAbility, years ago and found them quite helpful. I had $27,000 in debt. They went to each of my creditors and did what they could to lower or cut off the interest on each account. My total fee each month was $500, including $10 management fee to CCCS and was set up for a 5 year plan. I was able to pay it all off in 4 years.

Good luck,
Tracy

Thank you - after looking over the web, contacting companies and just knowing there are soooo many sharks out there, I just need some good advice.

Thanks you,

Hi Jean,

I am trying to get out of debt. My only debt is student loan debt, but between undergrad and grad school I have about $100K in debt. I see a lot of resources on credit card debt and how to get out of credit card debt, like how to negotiate your interest rate and when it make sense to take out a home equity loan to pay it off. I don't see the same kind of resources for student loan debt. Can you tell me how I weight savings verses paying down debt. I have about 7 loans ranging from 3% -8.5%.

Please help.

Thanks,
J.J.

In response to Nancy asking about Mint.com,
Don't give your personal sign-ons to Mint...here is why. I tried it and the one credit card my wife and I use for everything and pay off in full each month doesn't have a relationship with Mint.com and so none of the data comes across. Well this is 90% of our spending. Also, it doesn't necessarily pull in all your spending (it is limited by the number of days your credit card companies and banks make available on-line), so there could be 'holes' in the data depending on how often you download it.

It works better to track your spending in an Excel spreadsheet that is saved on your computer and not on the world wide web.

I am in need of a loan, cannot get one due to much unsecured debt. Where can I get a loan that will not take collateral. I have been turned down by my bank.

I am trying to work on doing some budgeting and came across the Mint website. However, I became a little nervous when it wanted me to enter my sign in information for my bank account. I noticed that you have them listed as a resource on your website. Is it safe to give them this information? Thanks!

Hi Jean,

Your advice on green investing was very shallow.
Advising people to invest in Starbucks and McDonalds is superficial and unhelpful. There are micro-finance investment opportunities which deliver benefits to investors and scores of small businesses.

I regularly use your segment on home based employment in a course I teach. Your advice is misleading and inaccurate. Most large businesses are not hiring people to work from home. Also, people who work from home tend to have tight relationships with their colleagues. You suggest the that the opposite is the case.

You seem not to be in touch with the new economy. Consequently, some of your advice is unhelpful.
